Although my crush on Jennifer Garner has subsided to a degree over the past couple of years, I still hold a soft spot for her in my heart. By that, I mean, if 13 Going on 30 came on television, I wouldn't change the channel.
Even though I never caught her in Felicity, I was a faithful follower of Sydney Bristow's adventures (read: made-for-MTV music videos) on Alias. I even rented Elektra, the movie where... what happened in that movie exactly anyway?
Positives: Hot Kicks ass Apparently likes peaches
Negatives: One-dimensional actress Had a kid with Ben Affleck Listens to bad music Was in Dude, Where's My Car? Apparently likes the Ramones
I don't know what it is about these boys, but they're absolutely adorable with their curly locks and pointy shoes. They sing with wide-eyed innocence about snogging on sofas and girls with large breasts.
Some people say Brighton is a place where you sit on the pier eating brightly- coloured candy floss all day. The Kooks only perpetuate that image. Especially frontman Luke Pritchard in this photo (at right, with straw hat), which also makes a strong case for the intentional wearing of a brown/black colour combination. Last but not least, knackered dress shoes purvey either resourcefulness ('Look what I happened across in the vintage shop/my grandfathers attic/the high school drama club wardrobe') or that you own nice things but can't part with them. Rrrrowr.
And they make the most crush-worthy music: cutesy and very cheeky, clean guitars, fun and poppy. Check out this video by French music blog La Blogotheque. They play Ooh La while walking through the streets. Christine can't get enough of it. One view and you'll probably be hooked as well.
Maybe I'm just another hopelessly enamored indie boy, crushing on whomever the Gum tells me to, but I absolutely adore Jenny Lewis. When she isn't singing duets with puppets, Miss Lewis is fronting Rilo Kiley, releasing solo albums, and contributing to Postal Service songs. And when she's not doing those things, she's just being an Eazy-E kind of girl, telling Spin how much she misses N.W.A. and reminiscing about the times she was the only white girl at rap concerts.
To sum things up, I love the voice, I love the hair, and in this case, I love the shades. If I could be any hand puppet in the world, I'd be this one.
Unfortunately, I can only try to ignore her association with Conor Oberst.
The best example that I can think of this is The Mighty Boosh. We discovered this show last semester and pretty much haven't laughed as hard as we did while watching it since (ok thats a slight exaggeration).
Weird, but I found this picture of the two of them with The Horrors... Kelly's crush has on red pants, mine is wearing Chuck Taylors (oh he looks awful here...sigh)
The show is about two zookeepers, Howard Moon and Vince Noir, who go on out of control adventures involving bears and mod-wolves and the like. But anyway, Kelly laid claim to Vince, Noel Felding, and I developed a crush on Howard, Julian Barratt. Noel is the hipstery one, very young British prototype, and Howard usually has very messy hair. I complain because usually on the show he looks terrible, this being part of his character, but in real life, I think he's quite dreamy.
I wanted to post because I discovered these two videos. One with them on their former sketch show,"(Un)natural Acts", and the secound being an interview with this horrible anchorwoman, but Julian just looks so cute and they make funny jokes.(She seems to think she's ALex Zane, but is not at all funny.)
Unnatural Acts: Police Sketch
- Julian is the back rubbing police officer and Noel is the man talking to the police chief. Its funny to see them so young, which such short hair. Noel looks especially different, mainly because we are used to seeing him in crazy outfits with fantastic hair.
The Mighty Boosh on Liquid TV
- I can't stand this woman, she totally lacks proper interviewing skills. Reguardless, this is how the two look now-a-days. Noel's hair is out of control as usual, and Julian is well... ahh, lovely. Lovely messy hair, lovely lovely smile.
Yes, that's right. It's KD in the house. I put off joining the blog as potential employers were apt to view my other blogging and, of course in the nature of the internet, find everything else attached to my name. Such as, perhaps, this. But now I don't care. I didn't get the job (no don't feel bad because) I'm going to travel this summer and then... Who knows! But what this does mean is that there will be a whole new international aspect to OUR CRUSH LIST. And I'm well-excited for that.
Anyways here's a little crush food for (the meantime) thought:
Totally crushing on Tom Meighan. Not only is he the member of one of my favourite bands, but he fronts it with swagger, energy, sass, style, and loads of (earnest) smiles -- plus does windmills with his arms while singing!!
Honestly, one of the few frontmen nowadays with loads of stage presence! Bandmate Serge, guitarist/songwriter/voxist, is also well-worthy, but he's almost too attractive, like in a model type of way. I stand by my choice.
So we decided we might as well blog about it. This is going to look a bit pathetic for a couple of days, as Kelly is out of town and I can't really think of anyone else to contribute to this.
Its funny, almost all conversations we have dissolve into middle school talk about Crushes and Likes and looking up pictures of guys (famous and not so famous) that we have thought about too much. This includes pictures that just caught our attention of blogs (i.e strangers), You-Tubes of favorite bands with darling faces, and looking up past crushes on Facebook, google-ing photos of those that make our hearts flutter.. (gah, so flowery).
So this begins an exercise in documenting and collecting those that are worthy of our affections.
This is the video that began the discussion... Mainly because it's about making out and high school.
VAN SHE - "Kelly"
Right below is a picture of him that she keeps on her MySpace. I think thats the college equivalent of writing a boys name on the sole of your shoe. Yes, I used to do that.
She has quite a crush on the lead singer. I say its too bad they are from Australia, quite trashy.. but still very good looking. Also, we can't decided if she likes him solely because she does, or because in a way it seems like he's singing to her..
And this one is mine...
GRIZZLY BEAR - "Knife" Acoustic and in Paris... *sigh* red plaid shirt... I should note that Carolina sent me the link to this video. It's done by this fantastic French blog, La Blogtheque that among other things records bands walking outside in Paris singing songs. Because I can't read French I usually just go to their you-tube account and search for new videos of fantastic bands.
This is a better picture of him from their tour blog. Kelly and I actually have somewhat similar tastes... well at least in white shirts and longish hair.
Well that ends the first post. Its quite long, maybe this is verging on a little pathetic? I dunno. Lovely pictures though aren't they? I am still questioning about putting names out there... is that too stalkerish? I've been known to google my own name. If I came upon a blog that was about Crushes I don't know whether I would be flattered or a bit alarmed. For now they will become anonymous. Maybe later we'll create profiles for them.... and then tape their faces onto dolls and pretend they can talk to us...
